Digitizing Source Material Using Adobe Premier

1. Connect the "video out" of the VCR/camcorder to the "vid in" 
of the computer, and the "audio out" of the VCR/camcorder to the 
"line in" of the computer.

2. Launch Adobe Premiere by clicking in programs/365.

3. A Project presets window will open, the default setting "Presentation 160x120" 
will set the window size at 160x120, but you can change this.

4. Select File/Capture/MovieCapture from the menu. (If you want to capture 
audio only go to AudioCapture)

5.  Determine whether you want to record video and audio, or video 
only.  If you want to only capture video go to Movie Capture/Sound 
input and turn sound off.

6. Cue tape to a few seconds before the beginning of desired clip. You 
may use controls that appear in the movie capture window.

7. Click the "Record" button on Movie Capture window.

8. Push "escape" key to stop recording.

9. View "Untitled" clip. If acceptable, go to "File/Save" and name clip. If 
the clip is not acceptable, close the clip window without saving and 
start again.

10. Click and drag the clip into the project window.

11. If this is the only clip, close Movie Capture window. If there are 
more, activate Movie Capture window and continue capturing clips, as 
outlined above.

12. With the cursor, move the rightmost red arrow on the  top line of 
the Construction window to the end of your material, so that the yellow 
line stretches from the beginning of your clip(s) to the end.

13. Perform necessary editing functions

14. Select "Project/Preview" and review your movie. If acceptable, 
proceed, if not, continue editing or recapturing.

15. Select "Make/Movie." Name the file (filename.AVI) and select the 
"Output Options..." dialog box.

       1. Select "Output" to "Entire Project" as
          "AVI Movie."
       2. In the "Video" window, select "Size" - either
 	"160x120" or what you're using.
       3. "Audio" window:
             + If you have audio, generally you want to
               select the defaults.
             + If you don't have audio, deselect the
               audio window.

16. Select "Make/Movie." Then select  "Compression..." dialog box.
                         o Set the "Compressor" tba
                         o Adjust the "Quality."
                         o Select "Frames per second." (Generally 15)

17. Name your file then click "OK."
