In the framework of large international research projects, two positions for

Research Assistants
(Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter/innen)

are to be assigned at the Lehrstuhl für Informatik 6 (Prof. Dr.-Ing. H. Ney) within the Computer Science Department at RWTH Aachen University, starting at the nearest possible date. Initially, the positions will be limited to 4 years. Your duties comprise research and project work in the area of

Image Text Recognition
Machine printed and handwritten text recognition for European languages (like English, French or Spanish) and Non-European languages (like Arabic, Bangla, or Farsi).

and/or

Sign Language Recognition and Video Processing
Video processing for European signed languages (like German sign language (DGS) or sign language of the Netherlands (NGT)) and Non-European signed languages (like American Sign Language (ASL)).

In addition, an adequate contribution to the teaching and exercise service of the institute is expected. The possibility to pursue a doctoral degree is given.

Applicants are expected to have:

  • An excellent and efficiently completed university degree (MSc or Diploma) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics (the degree should have been completed recently)
  • Advanced knowledge in at least one of the following areas:

    • Image and Video Processing
    • Pattern Recognition
    • Statistics
    • Machine Learning
  • Excellent Programming skills  in C/C++ as well as system and programming experience in Unix/Linux. The applicant should be able to write modular and maintainable software in a cooperative environment.
  • A strong motivation as well as the ability to cooperate in a team.
  • Good knowledge of English.
